When perusing the MSNBC homepage today, we noticed an article titled “Lack of computer skills foils many job-seekers.” For some laid-off workers, computer skills are essential in finding another position- even entry-level positions. We offer introductory classes for such people who may not know that a mouse isn’t a furry rodent, but an essential piece of computer equipment.
About a fifth of Americans don’t have Internet access at home, the Pew Internet & American Life Project reported in June. Their profile — generally older and less educated — correlates closely with the demographics of those suffering the fastest rises in unemployment, an analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows. For them, the first obstacles are the keyboard and the mouse.
Even if you aren’t currently unemployed or you already feel you’re sufficient with the computer programs you have to know on a day-to-day basis, there are always new tips, tricks, shortcuts and programs you can learn to do your job more efficiently. The pace of technological change is speeding up, and as technology evolves, so must our skills.
Feel free to send us an email, comment on this post, or call us with any questions on how we might be able to help you or someone you know brush up on these essential skills.
